Background
From time to time we run Dinghy Instructor courses at Aquatrek - based on demand from yourselves and our own requirements. A Dinghy Instructor (DI) runs Taste of Sailing, Start Sailing, Basic Skills and Improving Skills courses.
Pre-requisites
- Min 17 years of age
- Recommendation form Club Officer or Centre Principal
- Pre-entry Assessment completed within 12 months (see below for details)
- Valid Emergency Care (or equivalent) First Aid certificate
- VHF Short Range Certificate (incl. DSC)
- ISA National Powerboat Certificate (Lev 2)
*Cert endorsed for both Tiller & Console controls
*Minimum of 20 hours logged following certification
Duration
5 days (or 3 days for ISA instructors converting from other disciplines)

Pre Entry Assessment
We run preparation courses and assessments for groups and to meet our own needs - watch us on facebook for details.
The assessment comprises both a Theory and Practical sailing skills assessment.
Theory assessment may be written or by oral interview and covers Sail & Mast Controls, Compass & Errors, Chart Symbols, Tides - heights, streams, Rule of 12ths and curves, Collision Regulations (IRPCS), Weather and Ropework.
The practical assessment requires you to confidently sail, using all equipment onboard, with regard to the 5 Es at all times and in a minimum of 11 knots of wind, 7 of the 11 following tasks...
Sail around a Triangular Course, Do same but without a rudder, Sail Tight Circles around a stationary object, Sail a Follow my leader course, MOB Recovery, Lee Shore - Land & Depart, Anchoring, Mooring, Coming alongside a moored boat, Capsize Recovery, Reefing.
